Today, May 1st, sees the start of the 2013 European Cycling Challenge with 12 cities participating, including Dublin. This challenge started last year as part of the CIVITAS MIMOSA project with 7 cities and 1,200 citizens who logged their cycling trips by GPS using the Endomondo free App. About 90,000 kms were cycled and 10 tons of CO2 saved as these trips replaced car commuting trips encouraging smarter travel. Cycling heat maps were generated providing useful data for urban planning and the 2012 challenge was won by our CIVITAS MIMOSA partner Tallinn in Estonia.
